FAQ
FAQ – Bcode Digital Product Passport (DPP)
What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A DPP is a digital datasheet associated with a product that collects all relevant information throughout its lifecycle: technical data, documentation, instructions, environmental information, maintenance, and updates. The DPP is accessible via a link or QR code and can be updated over time in a tracked and verifiable manner.
Do I need to know about blockchain to use Bcode DPP?
No. The use of blockchain is completely transparent to the user. All notarization operations are handled automatically by the platform, without requiring technical skills or manual actions.
What is the wallet, and do I need to configure it?
A non-custodial blockchain wallet is automatically generated during the Bcode account creation, encrypted with the user's password. The wallet is automatically used to sign notarizations, without the user having to manage keys, seed phrases, or technical configurations.
Where do I start to create a DPP?
The creation of a DPP always starts with the creation of a product model. The model defines the common information structure for a family of products and allows for the creation of consistent and scalable DPPs.
What is a product model?
The product model represents a category or family of products (not a specific physical product). It contains the common information that will then be inherited by the individual products associated with the model.
Can I create multiple DPPs starting from the same model?
Yes. The same product model can be used to create one or thousands of DPPs, each associated with a specific product with a unique identifier.
What is a specific product within the platform?
The specific product is the real instance of the product (SKU, serial number, batch, physical unit) to which the DPP is associated. Each specific product has its own DPP and its own QR code.
What information can I include in a DPP?
In a DPP, you can include:
- Structured technical data
- Texts organized into sheets (cards)
- Images
- Documents (manuals, certifications, reports, etc.)
- Environmental and sustainability information
- After-sales information (maintenance, repairs, etc.)
Can I upload data in bulk?
Yes. It is possible to create or update multiple DPPs simultaneously through file import (CSV) or via API, integrating the platform with external systems such as ERP or CRM.
Can I customize the DPP's graphics?
Yes. It is possible to customize the DPP with brand colors, company logo, section layout, and images, consistent with the brand identity.
Can I include CTAs or marketing actions in the DPP?
Yes. Within the DPP, you can include personalized Call To Actions, such as links to e-commerce, warranty registration, service booking, or contact with the sales network. CTAs can be adapted based on the product type.
When does the DPP notarization happen?
Notarization occurs when the user decides to officialize the information entered in the DPP. At that moment, the data is signed and recorded on the blockchain, creating a verifiable and immutable version.
What happens if I update an already notarized DPP?
Each update generates a new version of the DPP. Previous versions always remain available and viewable, guaranteeing the complete history of the information.
Can I update a DPP after the product has been sold?
Yes. The DPP is designed to accompany the product throughout its entire lifecycle, including maintenance, repairs, technical updates, additional certifications, and end-of-life information.
Who can update a DPP?
DPPs can be updated:
- by the company's team
- by authorized operators (installers, maintainers, service centers, recyclers)
Can I manage a network of external operators?
Yes. Bcode allows you to create and manage a network of official operators, inviting them to the platform and assigning them permissions to update the DPPs according to their role.
What is the QR code associated with the DPP?
The QR code is the access point to the DPP. Once scanned, it always allows viewing the most up-to-date version of the DPP, without having to reprint labels or documents.
Where can I apply the QR code?
The QR code can be applied directly to the product, packaging, labels, manuals, commercial documentation, or any other physical or digital support.
Is the DPP public?
The DPP is accessible via a link or QR code. The platform allows you to decide which information to make visible and which to keep private.
Can I use Bcode DPP via API?
Yes. All platform functionalities are also available via REST API, allowing for complete integrations and automations with external systems.
What are the Bcode DPP APIs for?
The APIs allow you to:
- create and update DPPs automatically
- upload data and documents
- manage models, products, and operators
- integrate Bcode DPP into existing business workflows
Is Bcode DPP also suitable for large volumes of products?
Yes. The platform is designed to manage both single products and large volumes, thanks to product models, bulk imports, and APIs.
Can I monitor the use of DPPs?
Yes. The platform offers analytical tools to monitor access, interactions, updates, and use of DPPs over time.
Is the DPP compliant with European regulations?
Bcode DPP is designed to support the regulatory requirements related to the Digital Product Passport and the traceability of product information, adapting to the evolution of European regulations.
